Someone got into Georgia Power's online customer portal and reached names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, and the last four digits of Social Security numbers across about 400,000 Southern Company accounts, roughly 300,000 of them Georgia Power's. The source never says how they got in or for how long. One customer portal fronted the parent company's accounts, making it the failure domain for all of them. Limited account information turns out to mean most of a starter kit for online impersonation.
