The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) closed all of its clinic locations statewide on Thursday after a ransomware attack, according to a report published February 20, 2026. The attack took down many IT systems and blocked access to the Epic electronic medical records system. UMMC canceled outpatient and ambulatory surgeries, procedures, and imaging appointments, shut down all network systems as a precaution, and kept hospital services running through downtime procedures. Officials said the attackers had communicated with them and that UMMC was investigating with assistance from the FBI and CISA/Homeland Security.
